Karma Wilson's books are fun, rollicking, and sweet stories, and
How to Bake an American Pie is no exception. It's a great story about patriotism and would be a fun story to read this holiday weekend. I think the book would definitely appeal to younger readers, but the text is fun to read all on its own:
Pat out
a crust of
fruited plains,
then spread it
as far as you dare.
Fold in some fieds
of amber grains,
enough for
all people
to share.
The entire story is a poem, supplemented by illustrations of animals building a gigantic pie. Cute, fun, patriotic. Happy Friday!
