I'm emerging from the depths of progress reports and data analysis to tell you all about an exciting event coming up this weekend!
It's hard to believe that it's almost time for the spring installment of Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon, but it's actually this weekend! The read-a-thon is a time to read (first and foremost) but it's also a time to visit other blogs, enter challenges, meet other bloggers, and win some great prizes! It's a great tradition and it's a lot of fun to participate.
This time around, I'll be using my reading to help raise money for a cause that's very near and dear to my heart: The Virginia Beach Public Library!
One of my favorite things about Saturday morning is my regular trip to the library, and the branches I go to have a great selection of both old and new titles. This is a great opportunity for me to enjoy some great books and help out a great organization whose work benefits me directly.
Virginia Beach Public Library is busier than ever – yet our budget is shrinking. Last year, our books and materials budget was reduced by more than $100,000. Please donate to help buy new books and materials. No amount is too small. The Friends of the Virginia Beach Public Library will generously match every dollar donated by the community, up to $50,000. That means up to $100,000 in new materials for you and your family to enjoy.
Your donation will help buy children’s books, bestsellers, audiobooks, local history & genealogy resources, and more.
So anyway, here's the game plan for how I'll tally my donation:
$5.00 for every book read completely during the read-a-thon
$2.00 additional donation if the book read completely is a library book
I'm a huge mood reader so making a list ahead of time of what books I'll be reading usually ends up being an exercise in futility, but this way there's an added incentive for me to read my library books!
I'm not about to miss out on my Saturday morning library trip so my goal is to read for 12 hours on Saturday- 11 am- 11 pm. I'll keep you posted on Twitter and with a final recap here with what books I read and how much money I raise!
Who else is participating in the read-a-thon festivities this weekend? If you're raising money for charity, what charity did you select?
