News, Giveaways, Read-a-Thons, and more!

August is in full swing, which means that it's time to enjoy every single second remaining of summer before the school year starts again.  Having just finished teaching summer school, I'm looking forward to a couple of weeks of relaxation, hanging out at the beach, and reading some good books.  In the meantime, there are some excellent things on the horizon that I wanted everyone to know about!

Giveaways
There are a kind of ridiculous number of giveaways open at What Book is That? right now, seriously.  In addition to all of the Declare Your Independence Indie Author Giveaway Carnival giveaways still being open until 11:59 tomorrow, here are three others that are currently open for business:
Win one of TWO print copies of Chosen by Paula Bradley- closes August 9th at 11:59 PM EST
Win a finished copy of Spell Bound by Kelley Armstrong- closes August 10th at 11:59 PM EST
Win a full set of signed Avon backlist titles by Stephanie Laurens and be entered for a $100 Amazon gift card at the end of August!- the giveaway for the backlist collection closes TONIGHT at 11:59 PM EST and the gift card giveaway closes August 30th.

The winners of the giveaway carnival giveaways will be chosen and notified this weekend so be sure to get your entries in!  New giveaways will be ready to go in the very near future- I'm fortunate to collaborate with so many generous people!

Social Media for Social Good
For those that don't know, Limecello is spearheading a fundraising drive right now to benefit Save the Children's famine relief efforts in East Africa.  Every comment left on the A Humanitarian Crisis: What We Can Do to Help post helps to raise money for this incredibly important cause.  That post includes a really informative write up about the current situation in that part of the world as well as why funds are so desperately needed.  Many authors, publishers, and readers have also gotten on board and pledged donations and matching money to support the cause.  I mention this because I like to use reading themed events as ways to raise money for causes I believe in and support, and I'll definitely be doing that this weekend to support Save the Children.

Read-a-Thon

This brings me on to the next event that I'll be participating in as a reader! The Sizzling Summer Read-a-Thon starts tonight at midnight, and I'm super excited to just be able to relax and spend the weekend plowing through as many books as possible.  Additionally, this time around I will be reading to raise money for (you probably guessed) Save the Children!
I'm doing my part to contribute to the Social Media for Social Good campaign by tallying up donations for each book read.  For every book I read, start to finish, during the read-a-thon, I'll be making a $5 donation to Save the Children.  Additionally, I'll be using this link so that my donation can be matched by agencies that provide grants to Save the Children! I'll be making a separate post detailing how many books I finish plus the ultimate donation, so stay tuned!

If you'd like to join me in supporting Save the Children through the read-a-thon by making a similar pledge, leave a comment! I'd love to give you credit for your generosity.

That's it for me!  What's going on in your world?
